I'm writing this as fall approaches, with many of my HR and Event Management clients preparing for budget meetings. We all know that this process can be extremely stressful, but one way to ease your worries is by feeling prepared. When it comes to justifying (or sometimes pleading for) your employee wellness and benefits budget, I have some ideas for you to create a high-level overview that describes impact of your efforts in a succinct way without solely relying on the number of people who attended.
Yes, we absolutely need participation in your employee wellness offerings BUT true value and ROI deserves a more in-depth evaluation than simply knowing how many people showed up. You already know that. Let's help you feel prepared so everyone else can understand it too!
Here are a few questions that can help you deliver a more meaningful picture of how your organization is supporting employees, the impact they're experiencing and relating that to some key metrics.
- What are your absentee rates pre and post wellness offerings?
- Have there been any positive changes in Employee Performance Reviews?
- Has the number of insurance claims decreased?
- Any changes in how attendees are performing or behaving as part of a team?
- How does this offering shift the way they feel valued as an employee?
- Are employees feeling changes in stress levels or feelings of burnout?
Remember get some baseline numbers if you can. Those are the inquiries that I want you to consider with any and all of your wellness offerings so you can present this full picture to leadership and secure the funding you need to support the health & well-being of your team. My corporate member clients typically use these for an annual analysis, but you can apply some (if not all) to one-off events like a single Zumba class or financial wellness workshop. Feel free to use them however they make sense for your company.
Take these evaluation questions with you and let them spark even more ways for you to paint a bigger picture of wellness impact & secure those funds to support your team!
